STM si prende secondo me più in basso e poi si tiene fino a 23$. Ormai ci puoi rimettere l'orologio ....

Immaginavo ... devono essere conseguenziali a causa dei downgrade su Intel, non possono certo dire che il mercato dei microprocessori va male, per cui, se Intel non piace è chiaro che qualcun'altra deve piacere ... e AMD è la prima alternativa ad Intel.

Per me è un buon segnale pure su Intel ... sarò matto io ...

NEW YORK, July 26 (Reuters) - Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - News) is considering returning a portion of its $17 billion in cash to shareholders, according to a report in the Financial Times on Monday.

"The outside directors do believe that some cash should be returned," the newspaper quoted Intel Chief Financial Officer Andy Bryant as saying.

Intel is considering alternatives such as increasing its share repurchase program, raising its quarterly dividend or making a one-time payment to shareholders, the report said.

Microsoft Corp. (NasdaqNM:MSFT - News), the world's No. 1 software maker, said on July 20 it plans to return more than $75 billion in cash to shareholders over the next four years in the largest corporate payout ever.

DIFFERENT SOURCES are telling the INQUIRER that Intel's "Lindenhurst" chipset, scheduled for introduction next week, is proving problematical.
Lindenhurst, which comes in several varieties and is formally named the E7520, supports the EM64T "Nocona" microprocessor.

System integrators and vendors claim that there are problems getting both DDR-2 memory and PCI Express to work with the 800MHz chipset, scheduled for launch on the 1st of August.

Some sources are suggesting that fixes to these Lindenhurst problems - if they are problems - aren't likely to be ready until much later this year.

We'll attempt to get Intel's comments on these reports later, but the firm doesn't usually talk about unannounced products. µ

Intel taglia a sorpresa il prezzo di alcuni chip


Il gigante americano delle memeorie chip, intel, ha ridotto sensibilmente il costo di alcuno propri prodotti. Una mossa che ha sorpreso il mercato, ma che per il momento non sembra influenzare negativamente l'andamento dei titoli semiconduttori sulle borse europee.

FRANKFURT, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Research group Gartner strengthened its forecast for 2004 global semiconductor sales on Tuesday, saying it saw the market growing by 27 percent to $226 billion, up from "more than 25 percent" it predicted previously.

Gartner said it saw worries about an impending downturn in the cyclical industry -- fuelled by rising inventories among chipmakers and distributors -- as overblown.

"Had the increased inventory been accompanied by a flat or even falling semiconductor market, it would have been of grave concern. In a rising market, increasing inventory levels are normal," the group said in a statement.

Investors' nerves have been strained by a rash of chip companies reporting rising inventories, most notably Intel Corp. (NasdaqNM:INTC - News), which said last month inventories rose 15 percent and cut its profit margin forecasts.

A rise in inventories was one of the first signs of trouble before the telecoms bubble burst in 2001.

"The hangover from the severe market downturn endured in 2001 still lingers, just as concerns about the next downturn have begun to worry semiconductor industry executives," Gartner's research vice president Richard Gordon said in the statement.

"Despite the improving market conditions that semiconductor vendors have enjoyed over the past several quarters and the expectation that revenue growth this year will be close to 30 percent, this industry upcycle is notable in that few in the industry have felt able to acknowledge it as a boom," he said.

The World Semiconductor Trade Statistics group also sees strong growth in chip sales of 28.4 percent this year.

Gartner will present its detailed outlook for the semiconductor sector during its industry summit on September 13-14.

First Albany ha confermato oggi il suo rating di "Buy" su Intel (US4581401001) con un target sul prezzo a $30. Secondo gli analisti della banca d'investimento il colosso dei chip comunicherà domani che suoi ricavi nel terzo trimestre raggiungeranno solo la parte bassa delle precedenti previsioni. Invece di crescere del 7-14% i ricavi di Intel dovrebbero registrare un aumento dal 7 all'11%. Questa circostanza sarebbe però già contenuta nel corso delle azioni di Intel. In caso il titolo dovesse scendere al di sotto di $20 First Albany consiglia di accumularlo in maniera aggressiva. Per quanto riguarda il margine lordo Intel dovrebbe confermare le sue previsioni di circa il 60%.
Nei giorni scorsi molti analisti hanno espresso dei giudizi pessimistici sulla crescita dei ricavi di Intel. Ieri il titolo ha raggiunto intraday i minimi degli ultimi dodici mesi a $20,86.

Intel Cuts 3Q Forecast Amid Sales Slump

SAN FRANCISCO, Sep 03, 2004 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- The high-tech comeback is beginning to look like a mirage. Computer chip giant Intel Corp. delivered the latest sign of a high-tech malaise late Thursday as management lowered the company's financial projections after concluding businesses and consumers aren't in a spending mood.

The letdown is the latest indication that the high-tech industry isn't recovering from the dot-com doldrums as robustly as many investors anticipated. Expectations of much better times helped lift many technology stocks last year, but the sector has been slumping badly in recent months as a spate of companies have missed their financial targets.

Santa Clara-based Intel said its third-quarter revenue will range from $8.3 billion to $8.6 billion. Management previously forecast revenue ranging from $8.6 billion to $9.2 billion for the three-month period ending Sept. 25.

The mean revenue estimate among industry analysts had been $8.9 billion, according to Thomson First Call.

Adhering to its usual practice, Intel didn't provide precise earnings guidance in its update, but management warned gross profit margins are sagging. The company expects the third-quarter margin to range from 56 percent to 60 percent, down from its previous estimate of 58 percent to 62 percent.

Intel isn't living up to expectations because the global economy appears to be losing steam, said Andy Bryant, Intel's chief financial officer. "What we are seeing is pretty uniform around the world," Bryant told analysts during a Thursday conference call.

Intel shares slid nearly 8 percent in late trading Thursday, after closing at $21.63 on the Nasdaq Stock Market.

Investors have become increasingly disenchanted with tech stocks in recent months, reversing the prevailing sentiment of a year ago. The tech-laden Nasdaq composite index surged 50 percent last year, but has declined 6 percent so far this year. All the erosion has occurred in the last two months - a stretch marked by a flurry of disappointing second-quarter results.

Intel's warning may now raise anxieties about the third quarter.

Like many other companies, Intel is being hurt by slackening demand from customers. It's a headache that caused many of the nation's largest retailers to release disheartening monthly sales figures on Thursday.

The summer historically heralds a sluggish sales quarter for Intel, but this season seemed to be exceptionally lethargic, First Albany Corp. analyst Auguste Richard said.

The malaise may reflect one of the problems that plagued retailers - a lackluster back-to-school shopping season. Intel relies on the beginning of the year to spark sales of computers.

But consumers don't seem as eager to buy computers, particularly the most sophisticated desktop models, said Moors & Cabot Inc. analyst Patrick Ho, who believes higher gas prices are one of the factors hurting Intel.

"When many consumers are paying 20 cents per gallon more for gasoline, it starts to add up and they begin to wonder if they need to spend an extra $800 to $1,000 on a computer," Ho said.

Bryant linked the "vast majority" of Intel's shortfall on decreased consumer spending, but declined to answer a question about whether higher gas prices might be driving the frugality.

With Labor Day weekend still looming, there's still a chance consumers might indulge in a holiday shopping spree, but Bryant isn't counting on it. "You don't get the same sense of momentum building in September that you would expect for this time of year," he said.

Some industry analysts are worried that the sales slowdown will saddle Intel with a glut of unused chips in its inventory, a development that might force Intel to write off a substantial portion of the backlog. Bryant downplayed that possibility Thursday.

Even though Intel's second-quarter profits nearly doubled, this hasn't been a banner year for the chip maker. Unlike last year, the company hasn't been able to develop a hot new microprocessor to spur businesses and consumers to upgrade to higher-end computers - a predicament that has narrowed Intel's profit margins, analysts said.

The frustrations, which have included product delays and manufacturing missteps, prompted CEO Craig Barrett to send Intel employees a memo in July urging them to do a better job.
